THE ESPERANZA STORY
Esperanza Residences was founded in December 2009 by Allegro Resources Corporation, whose owner was inspired by stories of how a niece and also a nephew who had just arrived from the US had a difficult time finding a suitable place to live in while studying to be a doctor in Manila. There were 6 doctors in their family that lived in Bulacan.
It was challenging to find a place that felt like home. Most of the available lodgings had a dormitory-type setup, which were affordable but just not very conducive to studying, nor comfortable for resting. Safety was also a top priority when studies called for long hours at the library, or a night shift at the hospital. Then, of course, there was being homesick for family and loved ones.
Our first residence, Esperanza Place, was designed and built to be a home away from home. Rooms are cozy, with plenty of storage for books, clothes, and creature comforts. Each unit is outfitted with shelves and well-lighted study desks for burning the midnight oil. A kitchenette comes equipped with a refrigerator and microwave oven so that residents can enjoy hot meals. Outside the rooms on the ground floor, there is a common courtyard — an open and airy atrium — where residents can socialize with friends and meet with study groups. To top it all off, our live-in residence staff are there to always lend a helping hand to our residents, as they navigate through lives of study, work and leisure, away from their families.
In 2015, when Esperanza Place started to reach 100% occupancy with residents from all over the Philippines, we started to build a second residence hall to provide boutique studio units to more students, doctors and other professionals. In May 2019, we opened Casa Esperanza, a modern, upscale residential space strategically located across the UST campus. Casa Esperanza boasts of convenient amenities like a gym, a study hall, a visitors’ reception area, and a self-service laundry room — suited to the lifestyle of young students and professionals.
To date, we have taken over 1,000 students under our wing, ensuring their security and comfort throughout their stay. Some have written back to thank us for the good memories of their stay in Esperanza Residences. We are glad to have been part of an important stage in their lives, as they transformed from young adults to become doctors, lawyers, architects, accountants, educators, and bright, talented Filipinos.
As we look at our past and present residents, we ourselves are filled with pride and hope — esperanza. After all, the buildings were named after the founder’s mother. In her spirit, we look forward to welcoming you into your home away from home.
